about Hailey

HELLO

I’m Hailey, a Scorpio and middle child of three daughters, born and raised on a dairy farm in southern Oklahoma. I’ve always felt like a quiet observer in the world. Making things with my hands and connecting with people on a deeper level are what motivate me forward in life. I first wanted to be a photographer in middle school. I carried a plastic disposable camera with me in my backpack and took pictures of my friends. I started to daydream about a life of a photojournalist, particularly working on assignment for magazines that focused on human interest stories or food. It’s been 20 years since that initial daydream and even though I’ve meandered quite a bit on my path, I still find myself in the exact same daydream. Human relationships, personal stories, and our global food systems are still what interest me the most. I like the creativity of photography, but at the end of the day I love the people that I get to meet and the visual stories I get to tell along the way.

DOIN WHAT I DO

I decided to be a wedding photographer because I love a good story. But if we’re being honest, I think weddings can be stressful for couples and there is a lot of pressure to do everything “right.” I’m less into this and I’m more into people being real. This is probably why I connect best with couples who break the rules and be themselves, in life and on their wedding day. I cried the day gay marriage was legalized for everyone and I’ll probably cry at your wedding. (Happy tears!) I’m the photographer who will be a fly on the wall, but also bring you a glass of wine when you need it most. I’m going to be your friend and encourage you to follow your gut. And as much as I love big, elaborate weddings with magazine-worthy details, at the end of the day it’s about you and a story. I’m just there to help you tell it.

In 2009 I graduated from the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Montana with an emphasis in storytelling, lifestyle portraiture, and documentary wedding photography. I’ve traveled a lot and lived in both Colorado and Florida before landing in my current home in Portland, Oregon.
